Decoy Question

I've never used a decoy before, but I'm gonna give it a shot tonight. When using one, which way should you face the decoy? Will a buck approach the decoy head on, or from the rear?

almost every time they will circle and try to approach from the front. so, if you are going to have a buck decoy try setting it slightly quartering to, facing you. your going to love the results. Good luck

I have used a decoy for about 5 years now and from my experience if it’s a buck decoy they will approach it head and a doe it rear. Good luck!

some advice for the decoy...You have to be quick in whatever you do. They do not linger around very long. If the shot is what you want be swift and take it. I love decoys. I hate lugging it out there but 99% of the time I am thankful I went with the added hassle. Good Luck 180!

You will be glad you used one!!! it is sure fun.....
here is some advice, dont expect success every time, and keep it as scent free as possible!!!!
also, place the decoy in an open, easy to see area, as if a deer is surprised by the decoy, they may spook......
just some thoughts....

Face the decoy towards your set up between 18 and 25 yards, as the approaching buck will show his broadside to the decoy's head. he will stay between 5 & 10 yards out from the decoy, putting him in your comfortable shooting range! if a buck is super fired up he may just charge the decoy immediately.....but thats why you bought it.....to get it broke!!!

good luck!!!

What I've had the past couple of nights is that it didn't matter which way I faced it. They all just circled downwind of the decoy. So I always, if I can, put the decoy straight upwind of where Im set up.

i bought a montana decoy, anyone every use them. i got it for the same reason. i hate to lug a full size one back a mile....
