The kid in Indianola could used this!! Ya know all those guys taking pictures of your big buck???? Well these sneaky guys take pics of the Big Big ones!! Put them in a shopping album, take them to the buyers , agree on a head and a price..........And presto!! They stake out your house! Some night when you are out shoven tacos down your loved ones throat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wa! LA! You don't have a head on the wall when you get home!!! True story!! From someone that would know!!

First one I took was back in 2002 and the tips of the ears got bent.. better off taking it before its mounted and just take the rack and skull plate

I'd be very interested to know, of all the deer over the years that have been shown at the Iowa Deer Classic over the years, how many have been stolen afterwards.
I'm sure it's happened, but from your post you act as if it's almost a sure thing.

Same thing I've run into.
Dad was worried about bringing deer heads.. would people steal them, damage them? I told him no worries... this is the Iowa Deer Classic... 180" deer are just the norm, it'll blend right in. :way:

Does the Brian Andrews buck ring a bell, still hasnt been recovered but Tom Sexton made one hell of a replica.

You didn't have to go to the classic to know about the Andrew's buck. It was pasted EVERYWHERE! I don't know if it was at the classic or not, but if it was, I doubt that played much in its being stolen.

Then what's the point in shooting a giant or a state record? So you can put it in a safe and never have to worry about it being stolen? Regardless of whether you take it to the Deer Classic or not word is going to get around that you've shot a giant.
I always refer back to the old saying "don't assume, because it makes an ass out of you and me." I've learned that hunters & outdoorsmen are typically some of the very best people you'll meet your whole life, so don't assume everyone taking pictures of your deer is out to steal/sell it. Assume they are only dreaming of taking a buck like yours, it's hard to make the Iowa Deer Classic the greatest whitetail show on earth if people won't bring their deer because they are worried about being stolen. Doesn't seem to stop too many people each year

words going to travel whether you take it or not, just have a good security system and a .40 XD waiting behind the door...
I took a rack up last year. I didn't have any trouble with the show and enjoyed being able to share my trophy. I did sit back and watch people as they took pictures and talked about the deer on display. There were a few creepers around that appeared to be taking notes and spending a lot of time looking everything over. Walking in and out of the show with a large rack is the toughest time. I never felt threatened, but there were some akward moments with total strangers asking questions and wanting to examine the bone.
I was asked to bring my deer back this year and hang it in the "Hall of Fame", however, I will not be participating. Too many deer have been stolen over the years and I still liken the venue to "pedo's at a playground".

Honestly if I ever shot one that big I'd have a replica made, take the real one to the classic, and then sell the real one and keep the replica. A good picture, a good replica, and a pocket full of cash would be enough for me.

I gotta say I think I agree with your motto but who knows if I actually killed one that big I may feel differently.

My thoughts exactly. You probably can go see the real one is anyway (Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc...)
