My 14 year old son is determined that we are going to build a blind this summer or bust. I would like to have him design it as much as possible and build it too for the experience factor. Plus I know he will take pride in "his" blind once done, but I have a few questions that I thought folks here could help with.
1. Should we build it tall enough to shoot a bow out of it while standing or just plan on shooting from a sitting position? We do not plan on elevating it.
2. How late, as in close to the season, would you dare put a new blind up in area without risking mature deer avoiding the area? Is it too late now or do they get used to them in a couple of days, etc?
3. Is it practical to make it scent free? If so, how?
We have a fair amount of materials to use that I scavenged from a couple of old decks that I plan to use, so it will be a predominantly wooden structure with a normal shingled roof. Any thoughts, basic plans that have worked for you, etc, are welcome.
