Deer blind questions

My 14 year old son is determined that we are going to build a blind this summer or bust. I would like to have him design it as much as possible and build it too for the experience factor. Plus I know he will take pride in "his" blind once done, but I have a few questions that I thought folks here could help with.

1. Should we build it tall enough to shoot a bow out of it while standing or just plan on shooting from a sitting position? We do not plan on elevating it.

2. How late, as in close to the season, would you dare put a new blind up in area without risking mature deer avoiding the area? Is it too late now or do they get used to them in a couple of days, etc?

3. Is it practical to make it scent free? If so, how?

We have a fair amount of materials to use that I scavenged from a couple of old decks that I plan to use, so it will be a predominantly wooden structure with a normal shingled roof. Any thoughts, basic plans that have worked for you, etc, are welcome.

What will you be shooting from it? Bow, gun, or both?
There are some pretty good design's online that you can google search.

With ours, fold down windows seem to be the best, also appropriate window height makes them much more enjoyable to hunt out of. I'll measure the window height when I get back but I remember them being a bit short. (you can see in the picture dad's head is up pretty high compared to the window) Makes it kinda hard on the neck and back leaning over a bit to look out.

I know shooting a bow out of our's is impossible, they are 6'x4'x6' tall. Might be better if we had tallers windows instead of longer windows. Also they'd need to be bigger all around, taller and wider to allow you to even get to full draw. Bowhunting out of blinds is tough.

Also for help keeping scent free putting plexi-glass in the middle of your windows so you can keep them closed yet see is helpful.
