Backstrap Assassin
Well guys this has been the best experience ever! My little cousin wanted to go deer hunting this year and I jumped all over the chance to take her. I told her we were going hunting and she was already cleaning off a spot on her wall for her deerhead. I have been watching deer, putting trail cameras up everywhere trying to find these deer for her this year and it paid off. This deer she shot was the one I was hoping was gonna be the one who showed up the most on the farm this early, but was not gonna limit ourselves to one particular deer. So opening morning comes around we are pumped neither one of us could sleep. Get to the blind at about 5:30, get all set up and the wait is on. 7:30 rolls around and we get busted by two deer 10 yards behind us. Small doe and buck. Poop, they wheeze for about a good 10 minutes. 8 rolls around and a few other deer are off in the distance no chance of coming in. 8:25 a 3 pointer runs out in front of us and wont stop. So we decide to call it quits, go back and get some breakfast and take naps (well needed). Get all together and head back out to the blind at 4:30. 5 rolls around and 2 does are off about 250 yards not coming in. 5:30 that same small buck came back through wherever he was from the morning and we get him to stop, but all she could see was his neck. I said no go he trots off. She is bummed but I kept telling her we have lots of time left. At about 6:20 I look over and tell Twyla BIG buck out in the crp field, 140-145 inch 10 point never seen this deer before. He walks off no interest in my couple grunts. Bummed again we start talking about hunting the other blind in the morning. About 20 minutes before lights out I look back in front of us and see a glimpse of a deer coming out of the woodline. I say buck! Nice buck get your gun up. Natural instinct kicks in and shes on him. She says crosshairs are on his vitals, hit the safety! I flip the switch, I said are ya steady she says yeah I say let him have it! 85 yards, BOOOM blind fills with smoke. Through the smoke I see him hunched heading back where he came from. I say I think you got him and all she can do is shake and say that was awesome in a trembling voice! The face of her was so awesome I was almost in a tear from this experience I just had. We got it done. All my work and hers paid off. She instantly wants to go look for blood, but I tell her no lets sit for a bit here and let things settle as the smoke sets over the field. Finally I AM ready (shaking so much myself) lets go look for some blood. We find some blood and I say well lets go back to the house quick and get some supper since we dont know for sure. Walking back to the truck man she was talking away, before she is a pretty quiet girl. We are calling everyone to let them know we got blood. Get supper call her dad so he can come enjoys this with us. Start tracking finding better blood as we go. Shine the light up each spot of blood finally 50 yards in WHITE BELLY. Twyla there he is shes so excited she doesnt even know what to do. I was like pick up them horns lets see him. Just her reactions made everything worth it. Taking him down to the shop to get mounted.
