Deer Gro products -Plot Start and Plot Boost

Looks like it’d work good for most food plot needs!! What size utv are you pulling it with?
Polaris 800.
I'll note, if the lime gets wet, it will bridge in the spreader but stopping to knock the bridges down with a broom handle when you see an issue took care of it without it being a big deal. The

chart for this spreader has a measure for lime, fertilizer.

Thanks!! I got a few small places under an acre that I don’t exactly want to ask co-op/retailer friends to do and always wondered what other people do in those situations. I’d obviously bite the bullet and pay for whatever but we all know the going rate doesn’t exactly make it worth doing for people at times. I’d rather save favors for bigger things!!

How many have actually used Plot start/etc?? Obviously sounds good/convenient and maybe better than nothing but I have a bit of an agronomy background and just can’t see how it really works. Totally understand they claim it’s more of a chemical reaction or whatever but still.. anybody actually seen a lasting PH change?? Micros definitely help if macros needs are met already. Can read all the propaganda and see what they claim but has anybody had consistent success/increased lasting PH levels?

I’d spray micros and micros for plots. If they have good products with that in it- I’d be interested.
The products that will “change PH” …. It’s not possible without hundreds to thousands of lbs per acre. Simple math & chemistry. For PH on small scale, Pelletized lime will be the solution. Easy, still cheap if small scale. Get it put in fertilizer cart and roll.

There is a newer pelitized lime product on the market called 98g. Have not priced it yet however on small plots makes tons of sence.....

Also do not know the logistics either. (Where availed, min quanity to purchase.....)

But does sound like a very presice application and easy to transport from farm to farm.....

I did a before and after soil test on the 1/3 acre clover plot with plot start and saw a .6 change in ph i tested about 4 months after planting

I could be. If it’s all calcium (which it’s not)…. 5 gallons per acre of solid calcium would be 40 lbs per acre. You need to be in the hundreds of lbs for sure. Lot of variables on your soil (type of soil, ECCE & lime buffer capacity - disregard for this post) … but if it’s acidic …. It’s gonna be hundreds to thousands of lbs needed per acre. Doesn’t matter what form it’s in, calcium in most potent form will require way more than can be applied by liquid.
**ok, so that’s 10% calcium…. That’s 4 lbs calcium per 5 gallons of actual product sprayed. I’d like to see a guy START with 100x that amount. There’s some acidic soils in s iowa that I’ve seen that have called for 20,000 lbs of lime per acre. That’s the worst I’ve seen. When doing Des Moines water works lime which breaks down fast & higher calcium rates, most my soils call for about 4,000 lbs per acre.
Plotstart contains Calcium Chloride. Lime is Calcium Carbonate. The carbonate is what lowers PH. I can't see how there could be any effect on PH from Plotstart.

For what it’s worth…

I have a couple of technical questions on the product so I emailed DeerGro twice, several days apart. I also tried to reach them through one of their social media accounts as well. Last attempt well over a week ago. They have not replied.
