As long as you don't plan on shooting any deer with the gun, you'll be ok! You will have to wait another week for that. Other than that, you have more than enough for a first hunt. Good luck!

oh im not gonna take the gun ive all ready been told..hes just taking me out to get to know the woods and see where we will be hunting at...at least it will give me some what of an idea on whats going on..im just gonna sit with him and watch and learn...

Alan the wait has been killing you hasnt it!!!!

I hope you shoot a big one in the upcoming week. Id consider leaving the horns and grunt tube at home during the season, might be an extra pain.. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Maybe extra clothes so you can "add to" if you get cold or "take off" if you get hot. Dry socks in case you sweat soak em and get cold feet. A pad to sit on. You licenses and tag. A GPS unit to find your way home (not a "must have" but its fun to use).

Notice most of my stuff has to do with "old man" comforts.

Have a good time and at least try and get some sleep the night before.

Some suggestions, head light/flashlight, toilet paper and fanny pack to put all your gear in. Also if you are hunting bigger timber a compass might be useful and of course your license. Go get em!

what kind of flash light are you talking just a reg flashlight like a maglite or the ones that have like 3 different color builbs. red, green and white builbs..i have a 7 pocket fanny pack with the buddy lock system..ive had my license for a couple weeks know..im ready

I suggest if you have not already, meet with your fellow hunters. Drive by the areas you will hunt and be familiar with houses, livestock (no shooting zones) look at areal views of the property.

Good Luck hope you have a great experience, be sure to post pictures can't wait to see how you do.

If you have time practice shooting a moving target. I have in the past put cardboard inside an old tire, have someone roll it at various distances/speeds past you and get the feel of shooting on the fly (safely in shooting lanes). Then while hunting only take the shots you know you are capable of and comfortable with. Its better to pass on the shot rather than wound and deer with a bad shot. Often shotgun season the deer are on the move seeking shelter, especially if your driving deer. If you have a safe area to shoot set up a shooting range and practice walking through having your buddy set up targets in new areas where you have to quickly react or as above moving target.

I also use a cheap pin on compass its easy to get turned around in unfamiliar timber.

This is super good advise. Pin compasses are so important. its so easy to wait till 10min after dark to get out of your stand and head down the trail come to a T and go the wrong way. Even if the woodlot your in is only 10acres or 5acres or 5000acres you should still put one in your equipement.

Rest of your list sounds good. Might want to add a candybar/jerky and a watch/cell or something to a pocket if you have extra room.
