Today I went out to do some coyote hunting and came across a nice 140 class typical buck chasing 3 smaller bucks on a terrace. Two of the bucks were half racks. I'm standing there wondering, why is he doing this, then notice 3 does nearby. The big ole buck then mounts one of the does to my surprise. I think wow this is cool. Now, I'm only 125 yds from him and standing in an open cornfield with 6 inches of snow on the ground. The deer do not pay any attention to me whatsoever. The buck then mounts another doe and when he finishes with her a couple of times he finds the 3rd doe and breeds her as well! I'm standing there in disbelief at what I have just seen. I watched them for over an hour, all the while standing in the open and the deer didn't pay any attention to me. This is the latest I have ever seen deer breeding here in SW Iowa. I still cant believe what I witnessed today, it was awesome! I know one thing as I was standing there with my .257 in hand, if it had been deer season and rifles were allowed here in Iowa, this would have been one of the easiest kills I have ever had. Almost seems unfair to the deer who do get hunted with them, ALMOST!
