Derecho affect on wildlife.

I know some of you fellas we're in a big one several years ago.
Did you notice any die offs from it?

We had 104mph here last Friday and it knocked down Many large trees. I cannot even walk in my woods now. It terrible.
Something bigger is dead as I can smell it and have not seen 1 fawn with does since it hit.

Lots off bird nests on the ground also.

so like TSI on steroids? I know a property I used to do deer drives on was logged and a total mess was left behind. we thought it might be ruined but it turned out to be top.notch bedding.

So we were hit by the derecho hard in August 2020. Killed a bunch of trees. Timbers are still a mess trying to get through. The amount of new growth is crazy. I’m going to say that it created a lot of great habitat for wildlife. Unfortunately a lot of the areas are being taken over by honey suckle and multiflora rose but if one had the means to control it I’d look at a derecho as a positive. The only bad thing is loosing those nice walnuts and the big oak trees. Losing oak trees is probably my biggest negative from it. Did kill my biggest buck in October of 2020 too.

I'm worried a bunch of fawns and even older deer got killed here.

As load as it was when it roared through, I doubt 5he deer had any idea a tree was crashing down on them.
