Awhile back in Northern Whitetail's shed forum someone mentioned using a trail camera for shedding. Anyway all kinds of discussion came up but eventually the question was asked if there was a digital trail camera out yet.

Here you go,Cabela's, I don't use trail cameras myself but thought everyone might be interested in seeing it.

I saw one of these this spring at the AMO show. It looks like a interesting unit.

On the plus side you would save a bunch in photo developing cost. The down side would be that I like to get 8x10 copies when I get a nice picture.
 
My digital camera's use batteries like crazy as well, and I would think any kind of cold weather would zap batteries like crazy.

Just me...
 
I have also looked at these in Cabelas. After reading the add I don't know if this thing has a flash. Does it wind after the shot like the other cameras?

I would buy one of these things in a second it didn't scare the deer. I can't believe that the flash and then the camera winding would not send a smart mature buck into the next county.

Has anyone on here caught a mature (key word being mature) buck at the same location at different times or day with one of these cameras?

I swear the pictures I see in the hunting mags these bucks look alarmed. I would not want one of these cameras near my stand for fear of alerting a mature buck as to my location. What do you guy's think.
 
We use Camtrakkers on our property and take tons of pictures every year. While the deer do look into the camera some times, we get multiple shoots on multiple days of the same deer. We have yet to see any adverse affects as far as mature bucks or any other deer are concerned.
 
I agree with Ogz, a well known whitetail guide and friend in Wisconsin has hundreds (yes hundreds) of camtracker photos of the deer on his hunting leases, with many, many pictures of the same buck in the same places time after time. I wouldn't worry about spooking those animals in the least bit. Good luck!
 
I would suggest getting one and putting in your living area at home and let it run for a month or so and see if it bothers you when you are going to the water closet at night etc...8-)Seems like a fair test. Don't share those photos please......
 
Thanks guys. I believe you, but I can't help but think that if I were walking through my backyard at 3 am and all the sudden saw a flash and heard the winding of a camera it would make me think twice about that area.

Thanks for the info I might get one and see for myself.
 
The interior of our units have foam padding that surrounds the camera. This protects and also quiets the camera. I can't hear it go off even when I'm paying attention and know it's going to happen. As for the flash, it has been said that the deer may well think it's just lightning. We have two great bucks that we harvested two years ago, 164" and 178" gross, and pictures of both. Give it a try, it's addictively fun.

I have a camtrakeer and have taken multiple pictures of the same deer, no adverse effect, Then I just recently built one with the help provided by the guys at www.jesseshuntingpage.com. I set it out last night over a bait pile I have at work I ended taken 20 continous pictures of the same two deer feed.

THESE ARE NET SCORES GROSS WAS OVER 350" NO BODT CAN TELL ME CAMERAS DONT WORK AND THAT THEY SPOOK GAME... IVE SOLD HUNDRED OF TRAILTIMER CAMERAS AND WILL CONTINUE TO JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON M350 OUT.
 
I dunno, best value for me is make my own game camera for under $90.00. If it breaks I fix it that day and it's back in the woods. No 3 month wait like last time when our Camtrakker went in for repairs.

With pictures like this, I think I'll stick to a camtrakker or other 35mm camera until somebody gets the digital thing figured out. Looks to me like these guys don't have the answer quite yet.
I have several friends using the Camtrakker, Buckshot, etc. One buddy has harvested deer after first taking several photos of it. I don't think the flash bothers them and I believe this becaue I've seen many, many pictures of the same deer night after night.
