Upper 160's to lower 170's. Whats the story?

Some guy found it last year in late december, and called the dnr for a salvage tag. They ran a metal detector over it and found a pistol bullet in it.

So...does this mean the guy shot the deer or did someone else shoot it & he found it?

The pistol bullet could've come out of a ML sabot. Did it have rifling grooves on the actual bullet? If not, then it's out of a sabot.

Makes ya think about salvage tags & what could happen if you are innocent of foul play.
