Doe decoy questions

So I found a master doe decoy for very cheap lastnight and couldn't pass it up. Only thing is I've never used a decoy. Any advice on how and when to use them. Like I said I've never used one so any and all will help. Thanks guys..

Well with a doe decoy you want to have the angled away from you because most of the time a buck will circle behind the doe decoy to mount her. I have had alot of luck with mine all season long.

I would suggest attaching antlers too it. Decoys are the coolest way to hunt by far I think, although I have never been successful.

I have observed some interesting behavior with a doe decoy. Not much action or even attention from mature bucks probably because I have never had one see it. In my experience doe don't like them much. They seem to figure out something is wrong quick but after all their blowing and stomping gets no reaction from the decoy they're curiosity gets the best of them and a few have ended up coming in range for a ride in my truck.

I have used a doe decoy quite a bit!! As said earlier they will approach from the rear!! I use a scented estrus pad under her on the ground!! Don't spray the decoy!! I have had so many reactions it would take a hour to tell all! From coyotes to cows to a 11 pt. that came at a dead run and now hangs on my wall!:D Work all the time???? Nope!! But enuff to keep me using it !!!! :way::way:

Personally, I won't ever use a doe decoy. The does will blow it up faster than anything and the bucks won't pay as much attention to it if it were a buck.

so, for the matter of increasing the odds of success, I'd stick with the buck decoy if it were me.

:D I understand your a expert, wrote a book have a show, wrote a article to Outdoor Life or whatever!! I had 5 bucks on a decoy one nite! The first one that came in got a rage to the guts/ liver! He stood around untill the next one showed up, he was bigger! When the next 3 showed up and circled the decoy with the bigger one running them off for about 20 minutes the shot one walked a few and died!!:D I think they were all paying attention!!! Thanks for your input!! NEXT!!!!

80/20 rule applies here. I'm sure there is a time and place where a doe decoy will work better than a buck decoy, but if you took a poll the majority prefer to hunt over a buck decoy.

Heck, I bet there is a guy out there that has shot big bucks over a squirrel decoy before. Do it enough times, it's gonna happen.
