Does and Technique?

HEy,

I was just wondering if there is any certain audible or contact calls that can actually "stunt" doe movement to a stand placement? LIke, I've always had this weird theory or idea that: If I rattle early on into the hunt, it'll scare any does that are in the area heading toward my direction, and cause them to take another deer path.

I guess another question in relation would be: In your guys experiences, How have the does respond knowing that their is a possible fight/other aggressive buck behavior going on Ie: Buck roaring, grunt-tending a doe, sparring, fighting etc..?

I always seem to restle with what technique to start out with, especially during the pre-rut without spooking any deer.

I am always amazed at how often, shortly after a rattling sequence, I see deer. Only on a handful of occasions have I had deer come charging in to the horns, but I'd guess 75% of the time that I rattle blind I'll see some type of deer within the next 10 minutes. This includes does as well as bucks. I think sometimes the does come in just to investigate out of curiosity. Now, if a doe were to be within close proximity to begin with, I could see them being spooked by the sound.

If you are wanting to call does in, just use a fawn bleat aggressively, almost distressed fawn sound. I have it work many times to take a doe. They come running in looking for whatever may have their fawn in destress.

Last Sunday morning I wasn't seeing anything and I'd been in the stand for over an hour so I tried some light rattling. Probably on two or three minutes later two does with three yearlings came down the trail towards me. Then that evening I had a decent buck out in a picked beanfield at probably fifty yards and he wasnt coming my way so I tried some light rattling and he spooked. Good question, I guess it just depends on the deer at the time.
