Dogs in my hunting spot help.

I have a couple dogs that like to run through the timber I hunt. Talking to the owner won't cut it. Had a encounter with him a few years back, he doesn't care. Of course an arrow would of went their way but no shot was offered. Those dogs are going down... but how? My main concern is other wildlife, if you know what I mean.
 
I had the same issue last year with a couple of stray beagles. Lucky for me there were other hunters that hunted nearby that didnt appreciate either. They both took a lead pill that was fatal!

It is a horrible thing to shoot someone elses dog. But if they wont take care of it. there is no reason you should have to put up with it. Just do what needs to be done. I don't know if there is any other way to put it. I would make on more effort to talk to the owner, then I know what I would probably do.
 
I have had issues like this in the past and going to the dog owners generally wont do a thing. I went to the local spca and filed a complaint. 3 days later the dog catcher caught the dogs and fined the owner $65 per dog. 2 days later he caught them again and gave them a $1000 fine. The following week they were seen running by the dog catcher and they filed a civil suite against the dog owner, took the dogs from the owner.

Some dog owners either are stupid or just dont care. Putting a bullet in a dog is not my thing......however, I was temped quite a bit. I can honestly say that even though this was 4 years ago, the deer in my woods have not gotten over it. It is has a long term effect on their stress level.
 
We have the same problem but with 40 coyote dogs that chase and kill whatever they want whenever they want. The guy actually told us not to go hunting on our own land when he has them out!

Unfortunately, my dad was walking to his stand last year when one of these dogs charged him in the dark. Dad didn't know what it was for sure, just that it wasn't a person and it was charging him. He unloaded his 44 Mag and finally killed it at 5 feet and comming. The dog had nothing wrong with it but I still would have done the same thing if it was charging me. Just get to know the local Sheriff and let him know of your problems.

What is it with city people who live in the country? Do people think they can let their dogs and cats run without control? I am a life-long beagle and coon hound owner but I keep them in the pen until it is time for an exercise run or hunt.

I am experiencing the same problem with a walker, basset, and black lab on my farm and they belong to close neighbors. It is really beginning to frustrate me because the Walker hound is chasing the deer off of my place. I wish there were an alternative to shooting the dogs.
 
I don't know about other county's, but ours dosen't have an ordinance on dog's in the county running at large. When I have had to go on calls concerning problem dogs, I've had people tell me that their dog's have a right to go where they want and to be free. I always tell them that people have the right to protect their property as fair warning that the things are about to get shot by whoever they are pi**ing off. Sometimes this is enough to get them to lock them up. Personally I would pratice the three S's
 
Same problem here. The timber I hunt is right outside Iowa City and bordered on one side my new mcmansions. These people think my timber is their nature park. Signs dont help, the only thing that did was placing coyote traps on their way in and posting it.
