Need some advise. Sorry for the long post, but I want to give all the information. Let me set the stage.
it's Tuesday morning 11/7 about 6:30 to 7 in the morning. Watched a beutiful sunrise and watching deer traveling on the neighbors property. Then 4 does jump the fence and travel within 20 yards to my stand. They move just past me where I can come to full draw. I zero on the largest doe when I see a buck jump over the fence and walk straight to my stand. I start to count the points to make sure he is leagal to shoot (MO antler restriction) when the neighbors dogs run up the hill and give chase to these deer. called the CO only to find out that thier is nothing he can do. Other hunters have spoken with the neighbor about the dogs and this is the second hunt these dogs have ruined for me this year, and two from leased land on the other side of me.

Any suggessions on what can be done?

probally not the best way but shoot them.... its been a long season for me with crap like that im sorry...how i got a good buck i dont know....

I had the same problem at one place where i used to hunt. Various hunters talked to the dog owners about keeping the dogs in their yard but they didn't. Just happens that they dissappeared during gun season. Not by me, I don't think that I could ever shoot someone's dog that way. The only thing to do is talk to the owner I would say, tell him that more than likely if others are mad about the dogs more than likely they will get shot by someone and that you are trying to help him out by keeping them from getting shot. You don't want it to sound like you are threatening him because if something does happen it may be your arse.

Since you know whos dogs they are I would try and talk to the guy atleast one more time. If he just blows you off though, then I'd get rid of the dogs myself. Nothing gets me mad like having dogs ruin a hunt. If I were you I would have ended it on 11/7.

That is the consensus from the other hunters and me. None of us want to shoot the dogs, but something needs to be done. The owner knows it’s an issue because every time one of us would come down the gravel road he would take off. I have been trying to think of anything that I could do stop these dogs from running deer without shooting them, but I am running out of ideas.

I had the same problem last week on two different days. I was a guest at the farm, and didn't feel it was in my best interest to shoot the dogs, but if I was at home I know what I would have done.
They only thing worse than someone's dog running deer is the someone (owner) who won't do anything about it.

I have to assume that these are likely farm dogs being we usually go to the country to hunt. I don't like dogs running deer at all but it'd make me just as sick to see a farm dog tied up. I have 2 dogs, they don't run the countryside but they chase the deer out of the yard when they show up. I never have, never will tie them up, neither will my neighbours. It's a touchy subject for sure, not sure what I'd do.

I can tell you this, if my dogs ended up 1/4 mile from home and some guy that isn't from near where I live tells me to keep them home b/c he's hunting I'm telling him to kiss mine.

Good Luck with the problem.

Like I have said befoe, Do what you must, realize they could be a childs pet, a mans best friend, BUT you shouldnt have to put up with that if they continually show ignorance.

Saskguy-
I'm not trying to start trouble, but I have to ask what the difference is between a neighbor and a stranger ASKING you to keep your dogs from ruining their hunt?
Your comment surprised me since you are a hunter. I live in the country also and keep my dogs kenneled. An unsupervised dog can be a mischievious dog. The dog and its actions are the responsibility of the owner. I would hate for my dogs to ruin someone's hunt especially since I know how upset it makes me.
I don't think it is out of line at all for a hunter to speak to a landowner about their dogs no matter where they live.

We have problems with dogs at my place. One of the neighbers always has a pack of muts running wild. His father-in-law shot a few of them last year but he just gets more. I emptied my pistol on them saturday but they were too far away. I could tell they had been shot at before, one shot and they ran straight towards home. I'll have to throw the AR back in the truck so I can get a little better range next time. If I didn't recognize the dogs and they were of a hunting bread that may have just gotten lost I wouldn't harm them. But enough is enough. 3 years he has had them stupid muts running wild and I think it is keeping deer out of our area. I hope I see them coyote hunting when I'm ready.

wow.. i couldn't bring myself to shoot someones pet unless they were running my livestock.. however there should be nothing wrong with asking an owner to kennel there dogs especially if there running on someone elses land.. i see that as trespassing

Take a leash with you next time you go hunting and if you see them, get down from the tree, put a leash on them, and take them to an animal shelter two counties away. Someone who wants a dog will get one and you won't have it running around your hunting area. A win win situation.

It would be one thing if you had one encounter with them becuase they got out or owner forgot to put them in ect...

Multiple offences would really tick me off. Once they are off the owners property they would be fair game in my book. In Minnesota you can kill domestic dogs chasing/killing/harming deer from July to Oct. Dogs running deer here people are not real fond of. Dont know if there is a law against shooting ferel cats either but they are disposed of quickly/humanly aswell.

I would hate to shoot little Joey's puppy but if he is running deer on someone other than the dog owners land they would be disposed of.

Just my .02 worth.

I agree with the touchy subject. I guess I could never shoot somebody's dog unless it was vicious. I might get pissed if the deer got chased ever night but if it was once in a while I don't know. Most likely there not going to ever kill one. Maybe roll in a dead one.
There could be some very upset kids by killing them. My dog is just like part of the family if somebody shot it hard to say what I might do.

had dogs ruin my trip to WI, then called my dad to see how his weekend went and he had dogs running deer too...just got back from an afternoon hunt and was so close to having a doe walk into shooting range and here comes 7 mroe deer running with dogs on their tails....those dogs better keep running needless to say..

timekiller-
I can see were saskguy is coming from. When you grow up in the country and you are friends with all of your neighbors and you know their land just aswell as you know your own. You dont like someone else coming in for two weeks out of the year and telling you what to do. It's like having someone come put up a tent in your back yard and telling you, you have to turn out your yard light because they can't sleep. I don't know if that makes sense to you or not but it just rubs you the wrong way. I'd only shoot em if they were on your land and if they weren't high dollar dogs.
