My boy is right handed and left eye dominate. Anybody out there with this problem and how do you shoot your bow? He said he would rather shoot right handed and close his left eye. Any suggestions?
 
I'm that way and I'm too old to change. I close my left eye when I shoot. I do the same with a rifle. With a shotgun I cover part of my glasses with some chapstick. I do shoot the recurve with both eyes open, but I think I adjust the release hand to compensate. I don't know I just started shooting it until I hit stuff. My advice to your son--learn to shoot left handed.
 
I am RH left eye dominant. I made the change to Southpaw about 5 years ago, best move I have ever made. I also made the change with firearms. I would persuade him to give it a try. The pull back weight is not even an issue with todays let-off bows.
 
my left eye is way more dominant. maybe I should make the switch too.
 
Same answer from these guys when I wanted to buy a bow. RH but Left dominant. It is good advice, I'm really glad I didn't try to force it.
 
Same thing here, I have always shot a bow and gun left handed though. Have your some switch to left handed.

I am the same way, mostly right handed, but definitely left eye dominant. Cut to the chase, start shooting left handed.

I have a couple buddies that are just as your son is and they switched to shooting south paw. Best move they've ever made they said. They are both much more accurate with their weapons because of the switch. It took plenty of time for them to get used to it...one guy even had to take a year off of bow hunting because of it...but neither regret the switch and were most likely much older than your son. Good luck to your son!
 
I am going to go against the majority on this one and suggest for him to close his left eye. This will, by way of elimination, make his right eye dominate. In my expierience, when shooting for pinpoint accuracy with sights or a scope, most people close their off hand eye anyway. What I do when wingshooting with both eyes open is I slightly tilt the bill of my cap down and left. It dosen't obstruct my vision, but is in the way just enough that my right eye really takes over to look right down the barrel.
Also, this is a right handed world and sometimes it can be a pain to get left handed weapons or shooting accessories. At any rate see what works best and is the most comfortable for him.
 
I'm the same way, have him close the left eye. Eventually his right eye will get used to the bright fiber pin through the peep. Once he's there he will only need to close the eye for a split second. Add a fiber optic bead on his shotgun and he's set.
 
Same here. I just shoot right handed but leave my left eye open a little, seems to help bring more light into my sight.
 
The gentleman that set up my bow suggested using an eye patch when shooting when I found that I was left eye dominant.He said this due to the fact that when you are concentrating on the target your focus will not be on keepin your eye closed.
 
I am 37 and made the switch to lefty 3 years ago. I wouldn't have done it had I not had failing vision in my right eye and it has been a great decision. It was one of the more challanging things that I have done, hunting or otherwise. My younger son is also left eye dominant and has stronger vision in that eye. Needless to say he is shooting left handed even though he wants to try to shoot right handed. There is no doubt in my mind that he should shoot lefty, gun and bow.
 
I took my boy to Scheels yesterday and the guy helping us out said don't even think about shooting right since he hasn't ever shot a bow. He was definitly stronger pulling with his right but did fine with his left. We are going left. Now I don't no what to do about guns...Oh well. I did get a chance to check out the new switchback, super nice bow. Thanks for your thoughts.
