I feel your pain. I had a similar experience with a big non typical I had been watching from late summer up through Oct. My last trail cam pic was Oct 12th and I had my farm covered in cameras. I had hoped he just starting expanding his range with the rut coming on but as time went on with no pics or sightings my fears grew. Sure enough the adjoining land owner finds him in his pond. We don't know what was his cause for death but always had the bad thoughts of road poaching. He was making himself pretty visible from 2 different public roads.

It was closure when I finally got to put my hands on the antlers but it was a very sicking feeling all the same
