Double Down

It was a great day to be out!!

The toms gobbled hard on the roost and had 3 drop down at 6am. It wasn't long after I gave them a few love notes & put my jake into motion that they came on a string. The lead bird came right in and pounded my jake and before I could get a shot off the other two came in and started in on the Jake as well. I finally got one to stop (3 yards) and drilled him. The other two were still pounding the jake so I smoked #2.

As I was looking at them both I decided I would run out to make sure they had passed (bad experience earlier in the week) and the 2nd bird flew off so I checked the other and he was out. I had to find the other one in the timber then chased him down. I felt like Rocky chasing the chicken in the Rocky movie LOL...

Been a week of lowest of lows and highest of highs. Thats why you always have to keep fighting!!

Family loves this and big thanks to Grubby for the kabob vs toothpick tip.0502181808a-873x1164.jpg 0502181848-873x1164.jpg

Congrats on the double! You were fortunate to find your bird. If their head is up after the first shot I keep shooting from my position, whether in a blind or not. Yes I have emptied my quiver lol. Seems they are less likely to take off than if you try walking out to them.

Nice motion setup also.

Sounds like a great hunt! Always fun to see a Dakota Jake flogging. FYI Good Shit spice has replaced salt in this house. Never tried Chicken Shit.

Yep if I'm using multiple hens I stick one close to the blind and put the jake at 8-9 yards with another hen about 3-4 yards to the right like he's chasing her.
