Drury's

Mark gets his address switched to the address in Grand river about six weeks before archery season opens, atleast that's what he always use to do. Now he bought a house in Osceola so I don't know what his plan of attack is now. Oh and they're hardly ever in Grand River. Just to bow hunt and sometimes to kick people off during shotgun.

Ditto!!

I really wish I would have never read why those idiots get those tags. Now I hate that system even more.

The 2 that G6 pointed out seem legit...the rest of them are BS. Iowa does not need the rest of those goons "promoting" deer hunting. Good god.

I love how these topics get everyone fired up!!!!!!!! But what gets done about it.... but a bunch of guys/gals getting all fired up!

Most of these guys get those great tags every year and so be it.

If I was a out of stater I would be getting worked up a lot more then if I was a Iowa hunter that is for sure.

Some of these guys who own land just work the system for their residency tags a lot better then most and most have no morals when it comes to being honest if they can make a quick buck off a deer they shoot or someone else shoots.

I'm not saying you're wrong but how do you know this for sure? They're constantly videoing their hunts, wouldn't it be hard to do so on others' ground since you need double stands and what not? Plus if the word got out that they were those kinds of hunters couldn't it damage their reputation? I don't agree with them getting extra tags but I've always been a fan of their hunting videos because they show what also goes into a hunt. I'm not defending them I just would like to know the facts. Perhaps my views on them will change.

You get guys talk bad about anyone that is in a business they love to do ( I use to be one of them) More then likely because they would hunt for a living if they had the opportunity.

Im not saying the trespassing isnt true but... the H.S. Specialty guys that have a farm right next to a farm I hunt spend more time trying to keep people off their land and have no time to trespass plus they have all the ground in the world to hunt, why would they need to trespass?

I know they just bought their farm in Clarke County last year, maybe it was just a misinterpretation of property lines, seems to happen to the best of us at times and the honest of us at times. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Here is where the problems lies, you should never post anything like this unless you have absolute evidence to back it up. I mean like the Sheriff or local CO has caught them or written them trespass tickets. I say if you have evidence don't be putting it on the web, contact the authorities and let them take care of it. Then we all can read about it in the TIP news.

Yep, me too. Once an accusation is made, it can never really be retracted. Then the rumor can go around - "I heard that the Drury boys were . . .". Gossip has a life of it's own. If accusations can be backed up with evidence, then let the law handle it.

my only comment on that is.... for someone with as much money an area to hunt would be really really really stupid to trespass i just dont see it happening.

guess just being a deputy in northern wis wont qualify me...darn. i know the olsons from hayward, wi and i know that craig got a tag 2 years ago cuz he go it the first year i applied and he hadnt applied. his wife deb told me it was a gov tag.. sure makes a guy feel like a loser when just everyday guys cant get one...oh well it will soon be only the rich and famous that will be hunting...

Pretty sure "understanding" isnt the issue....
Obviously, the state is GIVING tags away for those who are "celeberties" in the hunting industry and will garuntee visual promotion of our deer hunting. not to mention Rich Leopold now wants to increase the number of NR tags, which in turn will restrict the amount of availible land for us in the future, Iowa residents even more.....

so i dont think it needs to be better understood....

another case of the "rich" get richer, and the "poor" get poorer.

I have nothing agains NR hunters at all, however, every NR hunter should be required to go through the lottery process, and be treated equally and fairly as a memeber of the NR pool of hunters!

i agree here too, it sure seems to me these guys would have LOTS to loose by breaking the law.....
i highly doubt that they would risk thier careers simply to tresspass.....

Guys

Welcome to the real world! We can discuss this(which we will) till we are blue in the face, but it isn't going to change! It is called politics. And yes it even effects our sport! The DNR does some great( and some not so)things for us, but it is still all based on money!

How much is an IOWA NON RESIDENT TAG? How many apply that don't draw? You think the IDNR doesn't realize that half those tags are sold because of what people see through Celebs? It is a cheap advertising gimmick for our State!

Yes, we as selfish residents(I said we Because I am INCLUDING MYSELF) who want to keep everyone out of our state and have our deer to ourselves!

Since I am being contraversial today I will continue with this idea. Most of US(again including myself) are ANTI Highfenced hunts. But sometimes it seems as though we(yet again self included) all wish we had our own high fenced area!! Guess that would keep people off and we could all have "the best deer"!

I'll put it this way, ma I jealous of people who can afford to buy there hunts all over the country?? Sure! Do I think governor tags should be sold off as a charity? Sure! But the bottom line is this.... I am DAMN happy that I wake up and have a chance to be part of the awesome whitetail hunting that takes place here year after year!

I would just like some hard evidence of why someone would accuse them of trespassing, not just a jealousy issue. I've always thought of Mark and Terry as standout guys that are very knowledgable about whitetail management. Plus, every year on their vids it seems they always video from "another area of the farm" which tells me they have a ton of land, which also makes me believe that they are not trespassers, why would they have to be? I smell B.S. but I would really like some hard evidence of why someone would come on here and accuse them of being crap hunters.

Well I do think it needs to be understood why the DNR and it's committee votes for these folks to get these tags. What I posted is what the committee sees before they vote on the applicants and decide who is worthy of a tag. It also helps everyone UNDERSTAND what reasoning the applicants give as to why they think they are worthy or what they will do to help promote hunting or tourism for that matter in the state of Iowa. While I undertand that you are well aware of how these MEDIA tags work I thought I could show the other folks an angle that many might not be aware of.

Nothing stops a celebrity or their company from being there to video. Maybe they should have a drawing from a pool of genuine tag holders that they take to their farm for a hunt. They get the video and a public relations opportunity. Just they don't get to fling the arrow.
