Eastern Iowa Antler Show and Auction

Last Sunday I attended the subject show/auction in Canton, Iowa. My purpose was neither to sell or to buy. I went to get an idea on what my irreplaceable collection was worth for insurance purposes.

I was amazed. A 168"+ ten point rack that had 2 small stickers that kept it out of B&C sold for $175 while a 170 & 3/8 ten point sold for $1250! Where is the logic? B & C is a great conservation organization but I now wonder whether the good outweighs the bad.

On another note, there was a huge set of NT sheds that I was told was from Northeast Iowa at the show for scoring. One side netted over 116" and the other side looked just as big although I did not get to see the final score. Whoever brought them in also had one antler from the same deer from last year. All 3 antlers were dark brown with long drop tines and incredible mass and character. They were an incredible sight. Congrats to whoever found them! Wish I had a picture to share.

DC, I just got off the phone with the guy who measered the set of sheds you are asking about (the set with the third extra antler). I can't remember the exact score but it was mid 220's with no spread. They did not go to the auction on Sunday I was told.

Are these the sheds you are talking about? The owner of these had contacted me about replicating them but it didn't work out. One heck of a set of sheds though!

Those are great sheds but I do not believe they were the ones I got to see at the show.

dc240nt,

You are correct. They did not go to auction. As I stated previously, they were at the show for scoring only.
