Elk and or Deer hunt

I am interested in going out West on a Elk and or Deer hunt and am looking for advice on Outfitters, Guides, States, Areas, or Public Lands. Any advice would be great. I have never been on this type of hunt so any information would be greatly appreciated. Also has anyone used the Cabelas TAGS programs and if so how was your experience??

We always do DIY hunts out in WY for deer. Plenty of public/walk-on ground to hunt. Just takes some time to figure things out when you get there.
 
I remember a Tred Barta episode inwhich he found quality public land just outside Vale, CO. Thier NR fee is around $450 though.
 
Hey Wapsi send me your email address or phone number and I will give you some great info on New Mexico. You would LOVE it! I know a great outfitter I have gone with him twice. Shot a dandy bull elk too!
