I had read about it somewhere. I belive that it was a wounded. I think they said that it went to water and must of fell in when it died or something. These guys that were fishing found it some time after that. A day or so later I guess. Not totally sure about all the facts but it was something to that effect.

Ya got it all wrong! That is what they were using for bait!

I'm thinking he went for a swim and drowned when he got tired of holding that rack out of the water!

I get tired just holding my head outa the water. can't Imagine what it would be like with all the extra antler weight.

I found the post I had seen earlier on another site. They said a archer had wounded him in early season, and the elk tried to swim across the lake to escape. He didn't make it, the wound was aparently a deadly one, just took a while to take effect.

I think i saw it on the boone and crockett site and they said it was in montana (I think) and they thought someone shot it and it went to try to cross the lake and drowned or sank.

Who knows but I would sure like to pull that out of a lake someday.

I would say that is a once in a lifetime catch.
