EQUIP Funds Frozen

JBAGS

Well-Known Member
Just got a call from the NRCS in KS. Apparently my EQUIP funds have been frozen and no contract modifications are allowed. No payments allowed to be made, etc.
I had a TSI contract in place.
Anyone else get a call in IA about this?
I have some CSP contracts in Iowa as well, I assume it will all be affected as well.

No calls..... yet.

This has been one of my fears with this administration. I wonder what the future of CRP is as well.
He mentioned it may get sorted out but he had not timeline or any info really.
I agree, with all the cutting of funds in seemingly every govt. department, I had a feeling this might happen.
I sure hope it doesn't come to effect CRP. That would be devastating across the country.

Wouldn’t surprise me. It sucks but I think we all know…. We can’t keep spending at federal level like we are. While I think equip is $ well spent & should stay…. Im all for pausing things, reassessing & making cuts. I’d much rather have some cuts made than see us go bankrupt as a country.

Agreed, can't have your cake and eat it too type situation. If we want cuts made for the betterment overall, everything needs paused and assessed.

There are going to be countless situations all over the country that are going to have to get sorted out or there will be massive litigation.
One tiny example. I'm actually in the middle of an EQIP contract right now on my own farm. It's partially complete. I haven't been paid anything yet.

100%
Seems like the best move would be to honor already in place contracts because of this exact reason. Then they can change the rules going forward if desired.

In my case it involved massive clearing to replant more desirable tree species. I cannot undo the clearing part. And now something has to go in where I cleared.

(This is way bigger than any one person, just giving real world example)

Honestly not trying to stir the pot ;). What is everybody’s opinion on removing brushy fencelines/removing trees/pasture etc. in order to farm for a few years and then enroll in crp?? Take zero income ground and try to make it into some taxpayer funded ground.. Obviously bad in the short term for wildlife and good in the long term for those that do it right. Anybody feel this is a bit of a scam tho? Or worried that they won’t ever get it enrolled? Serious question too! Personally am considering doing it on marginal crap timber/pasture mix. Am I a hypocritical con man if I do this? And will I be left holding the bad at the end? Always a guess on what the future of crp is. Personally I’d argue I pay plenty of taxes and everybody else is doing something similar so why is it my problem but i’m well aware if we all did that eventually there’d be a problem. Definitely well aware lots will have an argument to that. Just curious

We have several projects on hold in iowa right now. EQUIP and CSP both. Mostly a delay on approval from projects in the works and just awaiting final check off

No different than taking out waterways and farming them just to enroll the waterways into CRP. I've seen that several times.

Did a quick search on the Google machine… If this info is accurate, that freeze should be unfrozen. At least for now

Update:
From my NRCS conservationist in Iowa, for any contracts, EQUIP or CSP that are funded with farm bill funds, they are being told to continue on and work through them.
My Kansas farm is using IRA funds for all forestry work and that's why that one is on hold.
