Well I have had this guy frozen since last Nov. Finally found time to thaw it out and work on it last weekend . I still need a pedestal to put it on but it looks pretty good for my first one.
Good job, that looks very good. I perfer to mount mine so they angle out from the wall instead of straight down. Takes up more room but they look a lot better in my opinion. I bought a 3 piece pedestal from Van Dykes and then just used it for a pattern. I made a bunch so I could stain them different colors.
Here's a link to a photo of my mounts on the 3 piece pedestal:
I love those mounts. I did a euro mount, but just screwed it to a piece of poplar. I need to get a nice piece of walnut and router an edge on it. I also like the "wedge" that makes it shelf away from the wall. Very cool.
I got one of those kits last Christmas because I was talking about wanting to do a Euro mount. Hopefully I'll get a buck this fall to mount. I'll have to get ahold of you guys for advise on how to prep the skulls.
monsterbuck, I hope you get that buck, I live on the eatside of des moines and would be happy to help. Although this was my first euro mount I found that besides getting a little nasty ,It wasnt that hard . I will say that if you dont do it right away you should freeze the head , If it gets rotten you will NOT! enjoy doing it. Good luck.
