Eye opener for NR landowner!

I have to say that joining this forum group really opened my eyes. As a NR landowner, I followed the "Friends of Iowa" and wanted them to do something great. Now that I look back, if this goes thru, it isn't any better than wisconsin where people from IL and MN with alot of money come in and buy land at crazy price tags and drive up the price of land so much that blue collar, hard working people can't even afford ground. I hope like heck that this doesn't go through. I hate the people from IL...no offense, but they came and bought all the recreational hunting land at gold prices. I do not want this to happen to the great state of Iowa. So Iowans, I am behind you 100% even though most people would say I am crazy for not taking advantage of the land I bought.

Great points Seth!

I feel as if a lot of the followers of "Friends of Iowa" are just as you were... ignorant of the underlying truths (no offense at all really).

It is scary to think that basically... it is 49 states against 1 state.

Non-residents don't really know what hunting Iowa is all about. Most of the time, all they know is Iowa has good hunting and they want to hunt here.

I encourage non-residents to really take a step back and really think about why Iowa has the quality deer hunting and why some other states don't. Don't get brainwashed by Friends of Iowa.

A quote, straight from the Friends of Iowa website:

"They (founders of the Friends of Iowa) were non-resident landowners who desired the opportunity to manage their own properties (in Iowa) effectively, including being able to properly hunt their own land, as resident landowners were able to do."

K now follow me here, because reading that as is doesn't seem too harmful. But you look past the frills, and skip straight to the last line, "as resident landowners were able to do." That's just it! They aren't resident landowners! That's like saying that residents of another country have the same rights as a U.S. citizen does. Ok, maybe that's a stretch, but seriously. As far as I'm concerned, if you want to have the same rights as someone living in this state, MOVE HERE! Don't bitch about it just because wherever you CHOSE to live doesn't have the recreational resources you crave!

We really appreciate you feelings on this and thanks for sharing them with us. Now, if you wouldn't mind, please share them with the heads at the IDNR and send it to every State Legislator listed in one of the other posts. Since Mr Herring is holding closed cabin secret meetings with with FOI, perhaps he should actually hear from a Non-Resident gentleman with an opposing viewpoint. Again thanks for your support.
