face paint question

I've always wore a face mask while in the tree, but find them to be a little restrictive to seeing and hearing deer. I've been thinking about wearing paint instead, but my question is can deer smell the paint, and are they spooked by it? How do you guys that wear paint conceal the smell?

I've never had an issue wearing nothing on my face...just a ball cap. Deer never seem to mind. If I was hunting on the ground then maybe a face cover but not in the tree.

paint works well, don't see any difference in deer smelling it. They will smell you anyhow before the paint. Play the wind like always and just use the paint. Also, H.S. and code blue make scent wipes that take off the paint really well, soap seems to make it stick to your skin.

As a father of 3 I can say that baby wipes (regardless of the brand) work great. I am a firm believer in face paint even if it is only a head thing...the bonus is my kids think it is Halloween every time I come home from a hunt.

I wear face paint when its warmer and have never had an issue.... but have to agree that if they can smell the paint they can smell you anyways....

all you guys calling it facepaint...WHATEVER, it's makeup, and you're just getting in touch with your femmie side.

I doubt there's any proof that your white face is giving you away. If a deer looks up and sees (lets say Thomas) in a tree stand, I'm sure the white face is the last thing on the deers "spooking" radar...that 6'3" 250pound (give or take) 'tree trunk tumor' has probably already freaked the deer out.

The reality is, the small surface area of a face (even if it's a fat face) (covered/uncovered) isn't going to make or break the hunt.

Whatever happened to being a man and growing a beard?
To hell with wearing makeup, you sissys!!!:D

32 yrs old and still can't even grow a go T! Not to mention I am almost freakin bald too. So that face paint make up stuff is for guys like me. LOL. Sorry, the hair situation is a little sensitive.

Haha, I use face paint just to help, however I can grow a beard and look like a gorilla without a shirt on. Take my hat off however, Im dang near bald... :drink1:
But seriously, I dont think face paint is needed, basically just use it because I have it. Seems like every year I end up with some, and I never buy any??

I wear it, and to me it is a confidence thing. Before I used it, everytime a deer looked up at me I would panic thinking it would be able to pick out the white, so I just started wearing it. Plus I think it looks pretty BA. And I tried wearing a mask but it made it harder for me to find my anchor points. So I've started paintin' up.

My white goatee (old and faded) :D and no face paint (or makeup) work just great. I used to wear a mask but it got old trying to shoot with it on so I started going without about 5 years ago. :way: Come to think of it that's about the time I got glasses.
