Fall Armyworms

Toured about 10 counties over the last few days and pretty much saw the same thing. Some damage and found some worms for sure but nothing devastating. Damage was mainly in alfalfa/hay mix. No damage to rye and oat cover crop or brassica plots yet

Typically I hear about horrible “insect outbreaks” from ag retailers looking to add a little extra cash by selling additional insecticide. This was all from “reputable” food plot seed dealers actually tho.. Wish i had my last few days back. Personally saw very little damage. Hopefully that is the norm. IF army worms get bad they can definitely wipe out everything quickly. I guess I’ll keep an eye out still but sure glad nobody here has noticed much damage yet either.

Guthrie County, farmer took last cutting of alfalfa off several weeks ago and it was starting to grow back and then the army worms hit. It started on top of the hills then worked down the sidehills. All stems but no leaves left. Hope it will come back some this fall yet but I don't know.
