Fasten those Saftey belts!

I spent the better part of the day in the emergency room. My stand turned into a trap door and gave out on me about 8:30 this morning.

Fortunately my saftey belt caught me after a drop of a couple feet. I managed to scramble and get a foot on a tree peg and get down. When I droped my hand hooked on something and tore the heck out of it. I thought I'd broken three fingers in my left hand. The docs cleaned it up and it turned out it was only severly cut up. They gave me a handful of stiches and sent me on my way.

I was the second bowhunter into the hospital this morning. Another hunter had fallen climbing out of his stand. sounds like it was a homemade platform and the top board (step) gave out.

Anyway, just a quick reminder since we are all spending more time in the woods to wear your belt and use a little caution climbing in and out of your stand.
 
I slipped a few years ago, scary experience. Belt on as much as possible these days. Glad to hear you made it through with minor injuries.
 
I fell back in 2000 when, believe it or not, my safety harness let loose on me. I fell 25 feet and ended up with a compression fracture of my T9 vertebrae. I feel very fortunate to have ended up with only that result, as the outcome could have been tragically worse. I still layed there for an hour before I could manage the pain enough to move and then it was a 1/2 mile treck back to the truck. In case you're wondering, it was a malfunction of the belt that caused the fall, not operator error. Regardless, I NEVER get into the tree without one ... it's not worth the alternative.

I took a nasty fall earlier this season when putting up a tree stand. I was using my LW climbing sticks and a Lineman’s belt buckled to my vest. The buckle on the Lineman’s belt failed and I landed flat on my back.

When I contacted the company that I bought the vest and belt from they requested that I send them back for the upgrade. This company has upgraded the safety features on the vest and belt. The return time was fast, and the upgrades are really good. I feel safe again.

I urge everyone to wear that safety equipment when getting into your stand, while in your stand, and climbing down from the stand.

After all, we all want to be back out there bow hunting again next season.

Wow. i hunt in a stand thats not very sturdy but i have killed 2 of my biggest bucks out of it. This year think we will take it down and move it to another tree. But i have 7 other stands i can hunt in but i like the un-safe one.

Hope nobody else falls out of their tree stand this year.
