Favorite time to hunt

For many years, first 2 weeks of Nov.
Getting older/ wimpier. Gonna start focusing on last 2 weeks of October.

Late season is beginning to grow on me. If you got food it can be dynamite, if not you might be riding the strugglebus.

Frigid cold will test your gear though, I got to the stand yesterday and my release was covered in snow.. brushed it off and didn't think anything of it. Got all settled in, nocked an arrow and started to pull back my bow to check everything out and my release wouldn't hold. I got snow in the internals which had melted and refroze and I couldn't get it out. Scrambling and with deer showing up I grabbed my multi tool from my pack and used a fine point to pick the ice out. My release started to work, but I was paranoid all night that I would punch myself in the face drawing back on my target buck. .

I love late season if we get cold and snow. A mature whitetail buck in the snow is an exciting site to see. More often than not the weather is fairly warm through Iowa's late season and the hunting is pretty ho-hum. I'll be hunting the next few days and I'm excited by the conditions even though I'd prefer it a little colder and the snow a little deeper. I try it every year regardless but I'm way more deadly in November.

OCTOBER for ME!!!! Next…. Cold & late.

I dont think I can quite make this statement but im
TRENDING this direction “my least favorite is November/rut”. I still like it cause it’s “fun & action packed” …. So i won’t make that statement. But- not when I have the most success, I for sure can say that. This is 180 degrees different than 10-20 years ago. All I did back then was wait for Rut.

October without question. Then late season for the cold temps and snow. The older I get the less I like November.

Depends on what I am looking for. I love the late season over food because you are going to see a pile of deer and if you have a good buck or two around they will be there - however while I see those big boys I find it pretty difficult to be able to slip in where I need for a kill. That being said I killed the biggest deer of my life in 10” of snow in January

I still love the rut thou for the action. I could sit in the woods in November and just watch the craziness unfold without a bow in hand. Also enjoy the November surprise that shows up from a farm or two over

I do recognize that I am very lucky in that the last 4-5 years I had the entire month of November off and am enjoying the later Nov hunts more and more especially to catch a big boy.

Yesterday afternoon was epic, and the best hunt of the year. I didn't arrow anything, but I believe I saw almost every buck in the area. It could be a personal record on the number of bucks I've seen in one hunt. Hunting in situations like this you can really gauge your age structure and overall deer population. It also shows me just how easy it would be to harvest bucks over food with a muzzleloader.

I've been sitting over food with a muzzleloader all week and I've got nothing to show for it. I must be embarrassingly bad at this.:p

You're not alone buddy. Most frustrating part is I'm the only one with food for 5 miles and I know there's a big one within a mile but I swear he's a ghost.
