Fawns?

Anybody seeing any fawns yet? It may be a bit early but I wonder after our hard winter what the recruitment rate is.

I have been unlucky to have killed two while mowing. There seem to be plenty, I have yet to clearly see twins. I have one doe in my back yard that looks like she should be working for AE. Serious Utters. Last year she had twins. She is old and looks productive, maybe thriplets this year.

Saw 2 this weekend. One of them scared the devil out of me. Walked to within bout 3 feet of it laying in knee high grass before it jumped up and suprisingly ran off pretty quickly.

On another note in this same field I think I saw Elvis, the big typical we were after last year. We think he was in the high 180s last year. It's hard to tell for sure this early but his early frame looks like him :way:

I've seen a doe with a single fawn down at the pond a couple of times. Nothing on trailcams yet as I think they are hiding the fawns except for feeding times. That will change when the fawns start adopting forage as a food source.

My dog had half of one about 2 weeks ago. Not sure where that came from being he wears a wireless perimeter collar and is only out when I am home????

A week and a half ago, we caught 23 fawns and ear tagged 11 buck fawns down at Timberghost in southern Iowa. Most of them had really strong legs and had been on the ground for a number of days.

quite a few fawn have dropped around my area. Have already found remains of 2 that looks to have had a run in with some yotes. Got a couple trail cam pics of a couple does from last week that look that they still have a bun in the oven.

IOWABRUCE- does that have any effect on the mom's abandoning them? I didn't know if human scent getting on them makes the mom's abandon OR if that's a myth?

My neighbor's dog brought 2 of them to their house, killed them of course, I wasn't happy to see that.

I'm seeing more than last year also. I've had to move 2 cameras due to several twin fawns staying near the cameras. I'm looking for horn growth.

Got this bugger the other day:

I hadn't seen any all spring and yesterday pulling/hanging stands I saw 4.

It is a myth that if you get human scent on a fawn the doe won't take it back.
