Does anybody know if there is a fee to use the range out at McBride Lake near Iowa City?

Nope, it is a free range. There are postings out there on how to join the Johnson County archers which helps maintain the range and such.

What is the range like? ie. target butts, 3-D, etc?

i was out there today. it's not too bad. it has twenty flat, well-used targets set up through out the woods.
