Fence question

After years of being fortunate enough not to experience trespassing on my place, I have been having some issues lately. I don't want to go into too much detail here as certain things are underway to help solve the problem. ;)

But, I have this question...how high of a fence can I run along a section of my boundary? I want to keep people from coming over the fence in one area that is a problem. I also wouldn't mind blocking deer traffic over this fence too. The total length of this section of fence would be about 250 yards.

To my knowledge, there is no legal limit to the height of a fence you put in, especially if you fund the entire project.

The opposite landowner could be responsible for half the costs, but then you would get into problems with what type of fence to put in.

Glad I dont own land! Sounds like a huge PITA

thats pretty sad that you have to put a fence up to keep people out do you know who it is

Bascially, yes. But there are some things in the works so I don't want to get too specific on an open forum. I have involved appropriate law enforcement at this time and they are helping. In all honesty, I am 95% certain that one of the people involved visits this website, or at least he has in the past. I don't want to put anything up here in terms of possible techniques or plans that would clue that person in, IF they would happen to read this thread.

I own land and have had some issues before and it ticks me off more then anything. I write them every chance I get except the two Vietnamese Thomas and I caught squirrel hunting this September

Six foot should deter people from climbing over it. You can get by with 10ft posts and stack 36inch netting. I would use 2-3 steel posts between every wood line post and not stretch the wire real tight to further discourage climbing it. If you know exactly where the property line is set the fence on your side, then the neighbor can't argue about what kind of fence you put up.

If they are bold enough to continue to tresspass knowing you know no fence is going to stop them. I'm sorry but a % of hunters have no f'in respect for property lines.

There are some wrinkles to this case that I do not want to make completely public at this time, but I will say that it is entirely possible that one or more of the actual trespassers may not know that they are trespassing, as it seems fairly clear that one of my neighboring landowners gave them permission to hunt his small acreage. From there though, let's just say for now that they took some liberties that I did not approve of or have knowledge of.

They definitely knew they had crossed the fence, and then some, yes, but I do not for sure what the interlopers were told for sure by my neighbor, so I would like to leave some room for them to make the appropriate adjustment without a major throwdown.

I am hopeful that the actual trespassers, when given an opportunity to accurately understand my position on trespassing:mad:, will choose to stay on the right side of the fence in the future. I think a stretch of high fence will be one of the things to help them make the right choice in the future.

250 yds of high fence isn't going to deter many tresspasssers. It's just a short walk to either end of a high fence to tresspass.
