Field pods -- recoil

Hey guys, had a quick question regarding field pods for gun hunting. I know Caldwell has one and there's probably other brands out there, but my question is regarding felt recoil. Looks to me that you would still get the full recoil of the gun, unlike the claims of the Leadsled, but wondered if anyone has any input on this. Wondering about this for younger/older shooters. Thanks!

I have a caldwell fieldpod and love it. It is a little bit of a burden to carry in but find i am a much better shooter with it. As far as recoil, i don't notice it much with my muzzleloader, but it does keep me rock solid on target. I loaned it too my neighbor who took his grand kids shooting (ages 10 i believe) and loved it so much he went out and bought one. I highly recommend it for younger shooters because it takes the weight of the weapon away and helps hold rock solid on target. The only thing i don't care for is the color and am planning on painting mine black. Hope this helps.

I think Cabela's had them on sale last Monday...

Just got one in for my mom and wife I might have to try it out too. was on sale at cabelas for 59.99 plus free shipping . Don't know if it's still on sale.

I just ordered one today from cabelas! It was still on sale today. I have a 6 yr old that can't wait to try it out!

You can also check out the Rifle Railz and Loc Jaw made down here in AZ. They don't reduce recoil at all, but are solid rests. I don't use one, but I know several who do and hear nothing but good about them.

There is also the Triclawps that I've heard nothing but good about. If I do end up getting something for my daughter, it will be this one since I have a solid tripod ready to go.

I've never seen a rest like what you are asking for that will reduce recoil. The Field Pod and all of the others are simply to help steady the firearm and keep them solidly on target. Most of the time, in the heat of the moment, recoil won't be felt anyway. At least not enough to deter sensitive shooters. I know 11-12 year old girls out here who shoot 7mm and 300 RUMs for hunting, but never notice the recoil when shooting at an animal.

I have a Field Pod for my now 10 year old daughter. They work great for making the gun more steady, but do little or nothing to reduce the recoil.
She shot her first turkey 2 springs ago and, like a dummy, I put too big of a load in there for her. The turkey was only about 15 yards away & when she shot, the turkey rolled one way & she darn near rolled the other! We laugh about it now, but it really hammered the crap out of her!
