It's not the highest scoring deer but what he lacks in inches he makes up in charachter with his split brows, G2's and G3's. I saw this deer and tried to call him in on opening day of Iowa's early ML season. I didn't have a ML tag and the closest he came was a 100 yards. Certainly not close enough for a bow. The following day I moved a stand on the edge of the finger of woods where I saw him, bucks use that as a corridor and hunted it a couple times and had two decent deer walk by at 8 yards. I was in the stand an hour and a half when a giant 7 pointer surprized me and snuck in from behind me from a CRP field. 10 minutes later I was keeping an eye on a couple does and a spike off to my left when I heard the unmistakable heavy crunch of leaves to my right again. I turned and this guy was already at 20 yards. I was watching over my right shoulder more often but he sure got to me in a hurry. I reconized him and quick grabbed the quick bow. Lucky for me he made a left turn and gave me enough time to draw and get him stopped. He was quartering away and on the steep downhill side of my stand so it wasn't the easiest shot I've ever had but the arrow flew true and found it's mark. I thought it was a good hit but I let him lay for a couple hours. Probably a good thing cause I one lunged him. I expect he could have gone awhile if I would have rushed the trail. I roughed him in the low 140's with 15 scorable points. I thought he would score higher than that when he was still walking but when I was drawn back and knew he was a 140 inch deer I would have released the arrow anyway cause I love all the junk. I named him Fingers cause of all the splits.
