Well on my way to work this morning I caught my first glimpse of a tom strutting in an open pasture. 4 birds all together, only one fanned out and running the rest around, might have to put him on the 10ga. list.
Well I had to cheat (sort of) to see my first strutters.
I took my boy to daycare this morning (mom usually does it) and right in town there is a guy who feeds deer and turkeys. There were about 20 turkeys feeding in his backyard. I saw at least four toms strutting and two jakes strutting. I should of rolled the window down to see if they were gobbling. Time is drawing near
i know its coming
i have been strutting around the office and making dust bowls in the corners......
i also have an un dying urge to stand up and gobble for no reason.....
I've seen a ton of birds around but they are still flocked up and I have not seen a strutter. Watched a flock of 8 toms eating in a corn field. I don't know if i can wait another month.
I have been seeing the same group of 60 or 70 birds in the same field everyday at 5:00 pm for the last month. Today there were 9 birds... I think they're spreading out boys. Still haven't seen a strutter though. All this turkey talk has almost got my mind completely off of chasing yotes
went down to our farm in SE Iowa and saw 3 big ol' toms right in our front yard just casually walking across the road into our timber. then there were 2 hens just 20 yards away from them and walking to the same spot. all of this scouting is making me way to excited
