First time hunter help

Hi all,

This is my first hunting of any kind, and I am looking for a little help as to what to bring with me. I will be going second season (gun, not bow) and be setting up in a blind with another new hunter (new to turkey hunting).

I was looking for you help as to what I should bring in with me for turkey hunting. Also, is this stuff usually brought in in a backpack, or in a turkey vest? Are vests usually worn by those hunting from a blind?

Thanks for the help, cant wait to get out.

If you are hunting in a blind, don't forget the crunchy cheetos and Mountain Dew. Seriously, have a comfortable chair and plenty of patience. Good Luck!

Patience, patience, patience.....
When you get to the point where you think it's time to go home, give it another 30 min. - 1 hour.

Be quiet, know your surroundings, wear blaze orange when you are walking out, especially if you are carrying a turkey out.

Most of all it's not about the kill, it's the time spent in the wild, waking up with nature, doesn't get any better. You will be hooked on turkey hunting, it's a bad disease!!!

Matt,
I carry all the items I use in the blind including the blind in a back pack. The badlands 2200. In my pack I have:

rangefinder

tag(s)

headlamp

sharpie marker

toilet paper

knife and gloves (much easier to carry out a bird that had been field dressed)

superglue

turkey calls

clippers and fold up saw

multi tool such as a SOG, gerber or leatherman

small note pad

short piece of rope

stocking hat

gloves

2 bungee cords

Binoculars

food

electrical tape

2 heavy ziploc bags

I'm sure I have forgot a few things but that is a list of things I usually have with me on every hunt other than blind, bow, release, seats, ect...

No, he always carries his bow. That is about all he can handle. I let him carry a turkey once in a while so he knows what it's like to carry one.

Thanks for all the help everyone, not to mention the good ribbing! I'm really looking forward to getting out, hopefully successfully. Although, like someone said, looking forward to just spending some time in the woods.

Thats the best advise I learned after my first year a couple of years ago. My hunting partner got up after we couldn't get a tom to answer us anymore and that tom was only 50 yards away making his way quitely toward us and then took off. Once you get one gobbling back at you, you will be hooked for life! Good luck!

Super glue? Blind repairs? Substitute for skin sutures? I'm sure it is for fixing something specific. Can you give me a clue about the glue?

Skully,

You gotta remember that Limb just switched over to shooting a quality Bowtech. He most likely needed the super glue back in his dark days to patch those Mathews up when they broke down. He probably just keeps it in his pack in case one of his mathews shooting buddies is in a pinch

As already noted...don't be quick to move. they often sneak in quietly just like an ole buck.

You never know it...until you decide to move.

Goodluck!
