Flathead Frenzy

This past week has been absolutely amazing at work. I have learned that I cannot catch Flats on hook and line OR set lines, but I can catch the hell out of them with electricity!! I love my job.

And they give me benefits too!!

Windwalker - the juice will only go so far before it diffuses. Right now the Corp has the river drawn down so they could work on a boat ramp, we just hit it perfectly. Generally we can draw fish in from about 30 feet away, but that can increase depending on temperature and conductivity in the water. Also, the bigger the fish the more surface area they have to get nailed. Catfish don't have scales, so they're even more sensitive to the electricity, so you can get them from even farther away most times.

Maybe someday i'll be doing something like that. Right now i'm attending Iowa State University with a major in Natural Resource Ecology Management. Awesome pics muddy!

The muffs are probably for the generator that they run for electricity (assuming).

Muddy, I go out with our local DNR on occasion it is fun. Running nets isn't.

Remember not to reach in the water and grab the floaters! ZZZAAAAAAPPPP!

Nice Pics

Pupster is right, I wear the muffs because we have a 7000 watt generator that sits next to me while I'm driving the boat. It isn't that loud, but only if you're there for a few minutes. Since each site generally takes 2 hours to finish the muffs are a necessity if I want to be able to hear anything.

Pupster - whaddya mean running nets isn't fun?

I used to do that on the Mississippi and loved every slimy, hot, muddy second of it! Nets full of obscenely large crappie, ya gotta love it!

Ghost - They were all safely returned to the river to ensure the future of flatheads everywhere! Even if I caught one of them on hook and line, I doubt I could put the knife to 'em

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know...just razz'n ya a little!

Just made the comment because I have a friend that runs 1000 hooks on the Mississippi and he keeps back all the flathead belly meat for those "special" fish frys. Boneless, tender, and tasty.

Nice flats Matt! My brother got a couple days off this week to set lines. He caught 21 flats in 2 nights. Rivers are finally down and they are biting.

Hey, Make sure you stear clear of any mud sharks!

Beats the heck out of spending the day in a classroom. Muddy, you'll have no trouble hoisting a 36" pike into the boat after toting them big things around.
