Here's the latest FOI newsletter that a friend forwards to me. In reading it you can see how important it is to contact our legislators! The Senate approved some things that the House would not which in part is scary but also shows where to put some emphasis!

Only a couple legislators hunt and many live where there are few deer and no NR landowners which makes them vulnerable if they don't hear from us.

Here's the latest FOI newsletter...

During the past year I have had the opportunity to visit with many individuals from across the country who have helped to support our initiative. The support you have given has helped us make much progress this year towards non-resident landowner privileges in Iowa . With the help of Dick Thornton who has been representing our interests Des Moines we are creating a voice for you that is being heard.

In its report to the legislature Iowa ’s Deer Study Advisory Committee recommended that the DNR continue meeting “with this group and additional stakeholders to review progress on the issues identified in this report and to make further recommendations as needed to successfully manage Iowa ’s deer population for all of Iowa ’s citizens.” Based on that recommendation the DNR submitted Bill SF 338 extending the committee’s term and adding to the committee several new groups including “Friends of Iowa Landowners & Sportsmen”. This bill was passed unanimously by the Senate but efforts opposing this legislation within the House have been successful and this bill’s status is doubtful.

In Bill HF 722 amendment #1230 was sponsored by a group of House Representatives containing language that supported non-resident landowner privileges. Although this amendment did not make it through the final version of this bill, we will continue to work with legislators who do support our initiative. This legislative session has nearly another month remaining and there are a number of bills that we believe will provide opportunities for our amendments which we will continue pursuing with Iowa ’s legislature.

As expected our opponents are increasing their efforts to overcome the gains that we are making. They are well organized and have been preparing for this challenge for a long time. We need your help and support more than ever to continue moving forward, we cannot do it alone, we can not do it without your support. Consider what is at stake and what it is worth to you.

Note that the legislators who appear to support FOI have no clue as to the truth which of course is why they choose them. Please don't stop contacting them or in time you'll regret your lack of action....

Good info Dbltree! We definitely can't slack off. The heat's going to increase as it gets closer to the end of the legislative session.

Has any one forwarded these actual news letters to their legislators to show them how they are being played by a group of non-voters? I guess it is time to get back on the e-mail campaign. Thanks for keeping us informed!!

What are some of the e-mail addresses to our legislators? I would like to e-mail them to share some of my thoughts about the so-called "Friends" of Iowa.
