Hey friends! I am a licensed taxidermist and want to get my hands on some good capes this year to have for spares. If you or anyone you know shoots a buck with a big neck and don't think you want to have a shoulder mount done, I will keep the hide for myself and do a free European Mount on a plaque for you ($100 plus value). I use the boiling method and have not had any problems with bone weakening. I am mainly looking for full rut necked bucks, but, if anyone shoots a nice 3.5 y/o plus early season (within the first couple weeks) buck with short hair, I will take those also.
I only need a few, so, it's first come first serve.
Please take excellent care of the deer... i.e.: Don't cut past the front legs when field dressing, please drag the deer with the grain of the hair ( by front legs), please call me ASAP at 563-260-9425 and I will be glad to come to your place to cape out the deer for you...and maybe I will bring a few beers :drink: .... The sooner you can get the hide to me the better. The longer the deer hangs or sits out in the woods with out being found, the more epidermal breakdown will occur and bigger chance for hair slippage.
I take in a very small work load every year, so I should have a fast turn around time.
I am posting this pretty early just to get the word out there, but, I will move it up again once season nears.
I live in Wilton (just north of Muscatine). I will probably drive up to two hours or so, depending on day and time...
Any questions, just ask!
Thanks!!!!
Here is a pic of a European Mount I did a couple years ago:
