Fuel-based hand warmer?

I'm looking for the best option for hand warmers and wonder if anyone has experience with the fuel-based hand warmers like Zippos? Or are the throw-away kind better?

I used Zippo lighter fluid and the charcoal stick hand warmers a long time ago. They stink, are erratic in the amount of heat produced and are more of a hassle than the disposable ones, IMO. I only use the disposable ones now, might have the old fuel burners in a drawer somewhere...

I just get one of those hand pouches that go around your waist(I got a waterproof duck hunting one) and stick a couple disposable hand warmers in there- it definitely gets toasty in there- didn't wear gloves in the stand once last year- and it was pretty cold! I also leave all my tags and license in the zipper portion of it. I look like a sweet fanny packin hunter

This exactly. Those fuel ones stink like fuel.....obviously. And that smell isn't easy to get rid of.

I do this as well, but usually have at least a pair of thin gloves on at all times. Mine isn't waterproof, and I could actually go for a little more insulation (not sure what mine has). Problem I have tho is I like to use my binos so I have my hands out a lot. Tried glomitts last year with thin gloves inside, and actually liked them. You can put a toe warmer in the mitten part. These are flatter than the hand warmers I think, and are shaped like the end of a mitten so they fit nicely, and have adhesive on one side to make it stay put.

Back to the hand warmer pouch, I saw one in an ad that even has a window so you can view/use your cell phone without taking your hands out!

My hand warmer has a texting window it works sometimes. Last night it kept getting wet inside and fogging up. Also late in the season your body heat will fog up the plastic window. As far as keeping hands warm its awesome I only wear super thin gloves hunting.

That makes me think- I am in the custom engineering/manufacturing industry. Going to look into designing a chargeable heated bow handle cause that is what froze my hand last year as I would hold it watching the deer come in. Heated handle- getting a warm fuzzy feeling just thinking about it!

Menards have those

Yes, that is probably where I saw it.

Didn't think about the fogging issue. Good to know and makes sense. Wonder if they can add a defrost option.:)

Have you looked at White Rhino or Dragonfire heated grips?
