Crazy what one mild winter and dry spring did for the population this year. There aren't a lot, but I've seen more this summer and fall than I have in quite a few years.

Yea.. we kicked up about 15 hens and two roosters.. and didnt even walk that much.. it was all surrounded by standing corn too so who knows how many were in there.. i was happy to see so many hens

Those are Chinese chickens, and yep they are on a comeback already even with no CRP that everone was blaming it on. Had four along my north fence Tuesday morning, three hens and one cock.

We had a great weekend of hunting these birds. We killed 10 birds today with 5 guys. Thats more bird than we have killed in the last 2 years combined. It was a great hunt.

Haha.. nice work fellas! Its ridiculous how many birds you guys have up there.. i lived in spirit lake for two months in 2006 for taxidermy school at matuskas and I just couldnt believe how many birds I would see just by driving down the road

Hello all- I'm new to the site. I used to live in Iowa for school and LOVED chasing those chickens while out there. Boy do I and my springer miss 'em!!!!! Those pics are making me soo jealous. Only Pheasants back here in Maryland are on release operations and my springer I got while in Iowa, can catch's those silly dumb birds. How I miss those wild birds!!!! Looks like a great time!!!

old days

miss the old days when crp fields were miles long, roosters were everywhere we hunted up around Manning IA and limited out every time, usually went with a party of about 15 to 20 hunters and would always have a huge pile of birds they were not very spooky back then and lots of them would get up behind you or you would step on them habitat has hurt the population a lot. and with the new grain pickers there isn't much to eat anymore.:(
