MI did it by design…. It’s a weird situation…. No elk in any part of state & hasn’t been for who knows how long. They released some around the Gaylord, MI area many decades ago (Been around as long as I can recall). A huntable population for decades as well. I don’t recall hearing of the elk expanding out of that area. Which is equally bizarre. It’s hard to draw a tag but guys consider it “once in a lifetime”. I think success rates are close to 100%. Why the elk don’t spread- no clue. Always have been in that little pocket & remain strong in that little pocket.
