GA has got some hosses too - You will be impressed

Yea we have some impressive brutes too if you can get access to property in Fulton Co (suburban Atlanta with 4 million people) along the Chattahoochee River coridor. Its somewhat old news to us here in Ga who try to stay on top of things. These deer are such an anomaly from the rest of the state and it used to be a secret 5 years ago but not much so anymore. These deer have it all. River system nutrition, great habitat, lots of food, the best genetics and absolutely no pressure though apparently there is a little. The bucks are impressive to say the least though and is an example of what you can accomplish if you have the right genetics, right food sources, right habitat and management.

Our state has been taken our by the private hunting club leases and hunters pay astronomical prices ($1000,$2000/yr or higher) to hunt in the "hot spots" in this state. The irony is that there is much better hunting right in the backyard of Atlanta if you can get the access. I have heard some people getting access for free and its nice to know it still exists here but the opportunities are few and far between now.

Thought ya'll might like to see what has been killed in other states.

So with that said, I plan on researching GIS maps for this particular county and start knocking on doors to see what land I can find to hunt next year. I'll report back here if you don't mind with updates to my efforts as they come available and if I get to hunt I report those too. There have been some hunters who have given what I want to do a bad name, by getting permission but then tresspassing on neighboring property, baiting and stealing etc. Hopefully it won't hurt my efforts though.

Sorry to hear about the club hunting.. You never know what you will find out by knocking on doors. The worse thing they can say is No. Good luck with your efforts!! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif
