Gas prices affecting your hunting?

Hey Nanny,
A guy that used to hunt with us out in WY had an old Honda Trail 90. He just put those handlebar gun clamps on the front to hold his bow and had that little rack above the back fender to hold a treestand. The rest went in a backpack. worked pretty good, til you come to a cattle guard in the dirt road that has the pipes running parallel with the road and covered in snow!

It may just by what may come up expense wise between now and fall. It is something I have been thinking about lately. I was going to but a new truck, but I think I will keep the GMC 1/2 ton since I have put some money into it lately like a rebuilt transmission and buy something smaller car or truck for everyday.I have also been thinking about buying a camper to put down where I hunt and spend the weekends instead of driving back and forth a couple of times. Since I sold the Harley last fall, I may buy a new one next spring since I won't have a new truck payment. I will just have to keep from cracking the engine open and leave it stock. The last one did not do so well on mileage. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ha, funny story, the one's (Harleys) that I have been looking at are stock, and the dealer said that they get around 40 mpg. Then, he said that I needed to see this custom bike they have. It was a nice bike to say the least, and way out of my price range, but he said it gets in the ball park of 16 mpg.

I don't think the price of gas will have much impact on my hunting this fall. The furthest drive to a place I hunt is less than 20 miles from my house. Like others, I have started to slow down while driving, so mileage should improve over the 30 mpg I was getting.

I won't budge on the gas expense for hunting though I have been giving some serious thought to canceling my paid parking spot at work and getting a $10 bus pass. That would save me around $200/month. If the savings went directly to my hunting fund...... hmmmm.....

As others have already said, my evening scouting and spotting trips are not as frequent this year due to the price of gasoline.

I just put out my trailcams and freshened up my mineral licks. I will be checking my cams just as often this summer and early fall as I always have.

I consider the trailcams more important now than ever since I will not be spending as much time driving and spotting from a distance.

I'd say that's a no brainer!

Here's a thought..I don't use bottled water and it's price doesn't affect the price of everything else in my life like the price of gas seems to. Saskatchewan seems to have broken a record this month for inflation....nice. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

I drink alot of bottled water, and it cost me 3.99 a case, which will last me about a week. On the other hand, I use around 25 gallons of gas @ 3.89 per gallon. Also, they don't use hundreds of gallons of bottle water to delievery the fruits and vegtables to the grocery store where I buy my groceries.

You really want to look at it that way, price toothpaste by the gallon.

</div></div>That would work Pharmer, but a lot bigger then I need. I don't think my buddy would want that sitting in his shop drive all season.

I'm spoiled,I only have to drive 6 miles to the property I hunt. I do realize how lucky I am. I don't think my wife will care for me driving around scouting later this summer..... I'll have to schedule my drivers ed kids in the evenings and hit the gravels from now on.
