Getting Permission

Whats your approach when attempting to aquire permission to bow hunt. I feel fortunate to have a farm/ranch background and use that to my advantage. I don't go up to a farm with all my camo looking like a trophy hunter. I do however dress the part, I have a Case, JD, Pioneer etc.. arangements of hats in the pick up along with my Wranglers and well used pair of cow boots. When I meet the farmer/rancher we talk corn, beans, cattle, case, whetever he has in the front yard I have a hat to match. If I'm able to find something incommon with him more often than not I'm a shoe in. Wondering if any of you take a similar approach to gaining access.

I do the same thing All4s, The area i grew up in everyone knows who you are or at least reconizes your last name. The last name always gets me in Cause all the farmers know each other. I remember all the landowners on christmas and such and always leave my number for haying season, I usally drop off a case of beer and some venison jerky a couple times a year. And if I see them at the bar I always get them a drink or two.I never take it for granted like some do and don't follow a few simply rules, thats why i'm well respected and always let them know im hunting or taking a 4-wheeler in to get a deer out. Nice question, would like to hear others reply to this.

I do the same things, offer my help during the summer time or winter for that matter, send christmas cards thanking them again, It is the least I can do for them giving me the opportunity to hunt on their land. It is amazing how much they talk and it is good to have good things said about you when trying to get permission.

The landowner I approached this year has 1500 acres of prime timber that only a few people (a few nephews and their pals) hunt. Everyone said he'll say no but I tried anyway and guess what...he said no. He was working on an old international truck at the time and said he couldn't find a part he needed for the truck. I offered to find it for him on the internet. Turns out he owned a computer and was very interested in getting on the internet. I hooked him up and he let me have the run of the place! Now hopefully I can draw an Iowa tag this year!
