Ginseng

Waukon i used to hunt for it about 20 years ago but never found much more than a # or so.Never have been back to the area, might be a lot more by now.
Seen some on park ground last year, dont think you can dig in them areas anymore.
I always keep a eye open for it when im out in the woods ,aint found the gold mine yet.The stuff seems pretty scarce in my area.

Waukon 1,

How's it going. I stay in Waukon usually every fall and spring while hunting and fishing.

Is Iowa a good place to find the root? I've always been curious about this subject, how have you faired in the past?

I don't know if Iowa is that great of a state for it or not. I believe you get more $$ per pound if it is from Minn, Wis, or Ill. I think state like Ohio and Kentucky are big states. Pretty hard hunting so far for me this year. The woods are brown and everything has dried up. River Bottom Boy: what part of the county do you hunt?

AAAhhhhh the ole Satre Store, the best pickled heiring around.

The Satre store; Where she'll pull out an egg salad sandwich that was made 3 weeks ago, and try to sell it to ya. Or you can buy a nice coat and matching moon boots for $5.00

I been hunting seng for 30 years,I am very selective on what I take,I also replant with stratified seed each time I dig a plant.Back when the market was better I would harvest 4-5 pounds dried each year.ALL MATURE PLANTS.That took alot of miles of old hardwood timber. My childern now also enjoy looking,it's up to us responsable hunters to presurve this and all hunting traditions.
