Got quote today for $63/gallon. (Last winter I paid $11/gallon). Clearly 100 gallons is $6300!!! Crazy! Luckily we have a good bit stored from last year… 150 gallons or so. I don’t think I’ll buy any if we can skimp by. I know everything else is crazy but might make sense to spike with ammonium sulfate, 2,4-d or any cheaper alternatives. Cover crops will also be looking far more attractive!!! Same with residual herbicides.
$200/acre-ish just for Nitrogen on corn if no cover crops …. This is gonna get interesting! Diesel at $4. Potash prices through the roof. Just insanity.
On small scale - not a big deal. Over a whole farm- not good. Anyone got any cost saving ideas? Ive gone to 100% manure for p&k & thats saving a lot!!!
 
I know some guys have experimented with planting 60 inch row corn with nitrogen producing cover crop plants between the rows of corn with good success. Might be a year to try some new stuff for some.

Going to be higher. Monsanto announced they are short a key ingredient. It will be worse in 2023 bc right now some suppliers have it but that won't last
 
I plan to use rye and buckwheat for weed suppression and use some nitrogen producers like cow peas over the summer.. Likely try some soybeans for late food planted into rye. Start a rotation to get away from dependence on chems and synthetic fertilizer. This isn't going to be short lived.
