Going to Cabela's tomorrow!

Gander Mountain and Fleet Farms are always worth stopping at if you are going to Cabelas in Owatonna. Gander Mountain gets my vote if you are a MN area person. Approx 35 miles north of Cabelas.

I don't hold my breath trying to find a deal on anything hunting related. I have no loyalties to any one store. If I'm in a place and they have something I think I need I'll buy it there and not worry if I could save a couple bucks elsewhere.

That being said, I've had nothing but good luck as far as knowledgable employees at Cabela's, Scheels in IA city, or smaller places like R&R. Gander Mtn in Davenport on the other hand - I'm not sure those guys know where they're at let alone what the merchandise is supposed to be used for.

Cabelas really doesn't have much traditional archery stuff to get me excited. I get better deals and faster shipping from Three Rivers Archery.

For local stores (local is a relative term) I was impressed with Buck Hollow. Great servie and Boyd's prices were at or below Cabelas, something I didnt expect at a bow shop.
Still, I buy 90% of my stuff at Cabelas. I dont get over to Scheels much and I cant drive there for the price of shipping anyway. I dont think I have ever ran into an employee at Cabelas that wasnt pleasant to deal with either. Sure cant say that for my last trip to Sportsmans.

I found out last fall that Cableas has occasional sales for law enforcement, and I believe they also apply to firefighters and medics. The sales arent advertised so you have to hear about them word of mouth, and you have to go to the store in person (no mail order). Anything that was Cabelas brand was 40% off, and everything else in the store was between 5% and 40% off, you had to take it to the cash register to find out. I made the drive just for a coat, but it saved me $125.

BTW, lots of members would qualify for that sale, we need alerts on here in the future!

You haven't shopped at a Gander very much have you Hardcore? Gander has to be one of the biggest P.O.S. stores known to man. And they are all the same! I've been to the store in Lakeville 10-15 times and in Rochester 5 times. A couple of you think that there might be a lack of knowledgable folks at Cabelas? I would suggest you stay away from Gander unless you know what you want! Cabelas has always been a little pricier than all other stores. That's no mystery and it's been like that for as long as I can remember. But what they do have is a customer service department that is 2nd to none in general. There is nothing they won't take back if you have an issue with it.

I had a Marcuum LX3 that was over 3 years old and was having issues with it. I took it there to see what I could do with it, where I should send it to get it fixed. The lady said that I'll just exchange it out and when I'm done shopping...head over to the fishing department and grab a new one and then come see me. I didn't even have a receipt!

I think Cabelas has great customer service and a great return policy. I am knowledgeable on what I am buying so knowledgeable sales people is not an issue for me. I haven't been at Gander in two years but at that time their prices were great.

Went up there for the first time a couple of weeks ago and right here is the best part of that store. I need one for my front yard.

If you get to the KC Cabelas, the mule deer exhibit is worth the stop. While I'm at it here's my 2 cents on this thread. I second the thumbs up on Cabela's customer service and exchange policy. My customer service issues have been with Scheels and Sportsmans (mostly in the archery departments). Scheels because of the wide range of competance in their staff and Sportsmans because they were understaffed. About JAX, they are often price competetive on their name brand and big ticket items. I've purchased a bow, optics and Danner boots there and they were right in the ball park. I buy a lot of camping gear there too.

i was just there twice this week. once on the way up we stopped at Owatonna, and they had some great sales on fishing gear. i got a bunch of Rapala rattle traps for 2 bucks....normally 3.50 to 4.
thats a good deal
then on the way back we stopped at the new one in Rodgers. awsome store and they had some great deals going on there.
in fact i bought a 600 dollar trolling motor, last years model for 400.00 and because i spent over 150 bucks they took an additional 30 bucks off the greand total.....
so there ARE some good deals....just gotta look. they will continue to get my business when im traveling through the twin cities.
i just love being at those stores, and it is tough getting out of there for under a hundo....

I used to shop at Cabelas alot since there is one 20 minutes from my house. But now that Bass Pro opened 5 minutes from my house, Cabela's is just too far!

Went to both of the K.C. stores this week. Only thing I bought was lunch for one of my kids at Cabelas. I have everything thing I need (until I get to the deer stand next fall). The stores are everywhere now so I only buy every once in a while.
