Hi everyone - I was blessed with an extra fun hunt Friday morning when this guy came into six yards. I had some toms gobbling on and off the roost - and I thought a couple of times they were coming. At one point they worked away and so I gobbled back at them a few times and it turned them around. I thought they had left again with some hens as it had been silent for a while when I heard spitting and drumming coming from the west (one tom - not multiple were coming). I began purring on the glass call and as soon as he saw the decoy, he picked up the pace, crossed under an old nearby fence and began posturing against the DSD jake. I was shooting a SIK SK2 broadhead and he was dead in a matter of seconds. For what it’s worth, I’ve had great luck with those broadheads for deer and turkey. I’m not picky with turkeys - if it’s a tom, I’m sending an arrow but I was pleasantly surprised (shocked) to see the five beards. The spurs weren’t crazy at 7/8” and 1” but it was a cool hunt and I hauled my backpack, blind, chair, decoys, bow, turkey, etc. out with a smile. Really though, any day in the timber is a blessing. The only downside is that dad couldn’t come Friday - hopefully he’ll be there if I can fill tag #2 and then I’m hoping to call one in for a friend’s son who had leukemia and then my dad. Hopefully some more fun to come. I should do a better job of posting but thought you all would appreciate this one being unique…hope everyone had a great Easter!!
