I am just shooting myself for not being in the stand. I had to wake up at 5 but not to hunt, lifting instead. Just curious to see what people saw because I would have to believe that this might be the best morning of the year yet.

I think that it would have been wonderful too, but instead I am sitting here waiting for my students to arrive at the 8:30 bell.

You notice that the only people on here this morning are us poor folks who either work for a living or are at school...it must be nice to have vacation or "sick"days to use....

Just talked to my Dad and brother who are hunting on our farm in IL this morning. They saw 4 shooters in total, none within range and said the deer were really up and moving, with a lot of rutting activity going on. I told them to stick it out in the stand all day if they can stand it, because it will be well worth it. Hopefully it will still be hot down there when I head out Saturday.

I am on vacation...and sick! I had an awfull cough yesterday and today. Man this sucks! My last 3 days of vacation and I'm at home sniffling and hacking. Hopefully I'll be out tomorrow!

It wasnt a bad morning at all. Yesterday was 100% better though. Had a nice wide 8 sneak up on me this morning. When i turned around he darted off

Lets see i saw about 7 deer today and about 15 yesterday. Hopefully it gets cold this weekend for rifle season. Thats when the deer really start to move. When its cold out

Yesterday (Thursday) I saw four bucks just southwest of Ames on my way to my hunting spot. Two had their noses down, though I didn't see any does. I turned onto gravel headed west and pulled up right by one of them ... probably a 2.5 8 pointer that would go around 120. He stood there just across the fence and stared at me for about a minute before walking off.

Needless to say, I thought it was gonna be a good day. Got to my spot and set up and saw a small six pointer with his nose to the ground about 7:30 a.m. -- grunted at him but he didn't even slow down. I sat two more stands and didn't see anything until almost 4:45 ... a really dark 8 pointer with a long, tall rack. He hung up about 60 yards out and wouldn't come closer. I was wishing I had a decoy out. Didn't see a single doe all day ... which was probably where the bucks were too. It was a little too windy most of the day.

Worst part was getting home and getting a call that a buddy of mine shot a nice buck down in southern Iowa from my ladder stand. He'd gotten video of this deer earlier and it was a nice one. Grossed 170" and had come in about 2:30 p.m. with a doe and fawn. Gave him a 20 yd. quartering away shot. (I'm waiting for pics).

Frustrating but it was a great day just to be out in the woods.

Well today wasnt a good morning at all. I drove into the land that we hunt on an saw 3 does by the road. Got out of the truck and right before i got to the stand i spooked a doe. And thats all i saw. I got their at around 8:15 and stayed till 11:30. BUt tomorrow rifle season opens and ill be in the stand around 6:15

good luck be careful with all those weekend hunters and high power rifles. stay high in a tree and shoot straight. Now if Nebraska would just let us bow hunt also instead of shutting the season down I would be alot happier. Going out tonight hope to get one..
